Socrates is on trial, but his defense is also a question to the reader: what is a life worth if it is never examined?
I try to persuade each of you that he must not care first for his body or possessions, but for his soul, so that it may become as good as possible. For virtue does not come from wealth; rather wealth and all other things become good for people through virtue.
