Montaigne turns doubt into discipline: a person must learn that judgment is often smaller than certainty.

I study myself more than any other subject. That is my metaphysics; that is my physics. Whoever recognizes his own weakness has already begun in wisdom, for nothing is more common than speaking with great certainty about things we barely understand.
